RETURN TO PLAY - COVID 19 UPDATES

**REMINDER! ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST HAVE A PHYSICAL ON FILE WITH THE STUDENT ACTIVITIES OFFICE PRIOR TO BEING ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE

Based on Virginia Beach City Public Schools’ (VBCPS) work on our return-to participation (RTP) plan for Virginia High School League (VHSL) fall sports, our student athletes will be welcomed back to the fields and tracks as of Monday, July 6. The current plan in place is for FALL SPORTS TEAMS ONLY!

The RTP plan has created stages for participation, which are outlined by sport/activity. However, please note the stages for participation are distinctly different from the phases of reopening outlined by the governor or the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE). Our RTP plan works to provide safe guidance for VBCPS students, coaches and staff to begin a return to participation in sports.

The VHSL announced earlier this month that schools would be allowed to resume offseason workouts once a health plan had been submitted to the VDOE. After careful consideration and consultation with local health authorities, VBCPS completed and submitted their plan, which has also been shared with the Coaches and SAC at our school.

As you will see in the linked document, the division’s RTP protocols place an emphasis on the safety and well-being of our young athletes by focusing on conditioning and fitness rather than competition, and these procedures allow for any health mitigation recommendations. In addition, prior to participating, all athletes must have a current (dated after May 1, 2020) physical on-file with their schools.
